A British smallholding on a spring morning

Getting Started

Everyone starts somewhere, usually with more enthusiasm than plan. This corner of the site is for the very beginning: what to try first, what to leave until later, and how to get going without spending a fortune or biting off more than a weekend can chew. You don't need land, a barn or a life change to start homesteading. You need a pot, a bit of curiosity and one small win.

We'll point you at the gentlest ways in, whether that's a few salad leaves, a compost bin, a first batch of jam or, when you're ready, a few hens. No purism, no preaching, just the honest first steps that build into a more self-reliant life at whatever pace suits you.
