We don’t use analytics or advertising cookies, and we don’t store anything on your device to track you. That’s why there is no cookie banner.

How we count visits

We count page views so we know which guides are useful. We use Google Analytics in Google’s cookieless mode and our own simple page counter. Neither one sets a cookie or saves anything in your browser, and neither one can recognise you from one visit to the next.

We also run our own visit counter. While a page is open it notes how long it was on screen, how far down it was scrolled, which links and buttons were clicked and whether a sign-up form was sent (never what you typed). It stores nothing on your device either. Our server turns your internet address and browser into a visit code with a secret that changes every day and is then deleted, so the pages of one visit can be seen together but the code cannot be traced back to you or linked to another day, and your internet address is not kept. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, it does not run.

Cookies that keep the site working

If a page needs a cookie to work, for example to keep the site secure, it is only ever used for that. No tracking.

If you sign up for our newsletter or a download, we record that you agreed and the wording you saw. You can unsubscribe from any email at any time. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data and your rights.
